Heavy timbers are desirable materials to employ for fireplace mantels in homes or non-residential buildings seeking the “heavy timber” look. Timber Mantels are often added to complement Heavy Timber Trusses or other beams used in the structure. SWC provides Mantels fabricated from any of the materials shown in our Heavy Timber Truss section, in addition to some other materials such as Reclaimed Timber or Ashe Juniper (Texas Cedar).
Mantels can be supplied with four planed sides, or with specific faces, typically the front edge or bottom side, having the natural outer surface of a log. Natural surfaces can be supplied with bark left on, or peeled and pressure washed to achieve a smooth log finish. Mantels can be provided with a faux hand hewn finish as well. Staining or other antique finishing is performed by the customer.
Depending on the material species chosen, Mantels can normally be supplied up to 12” in thickness, 18” in width and any length. Customers frequently request matching Corbels to position below the Mantel for decoration or support.
